Little Paris Bookshop

What this book is about:

Monsieur Perdu owns a river barge in which he houses a bookstore (or rather, a literary apothecary as he likes to call it), which he believes can remedy the many unexplained afflictions of his customers. He has a special instinctive for recognizing which books his costumers need to read and accordingly recommends those books as a cure for them.

However, when Monsieur Perdu comes across a letter which pride had prevented him from reading 21 years ago, he is forced to confront his own feelings about his lost love and comes face to face with fears he has spent years avoiding.

Thus, starts the adventure of Monsieur Perdu as he takes his barge across France in search of his long-lost love – introducing the readers, along the way, to little French towns, French food and many loveable characters – each on their own journey through life in search of something.

A poignant, beautiful read. Do give it a read and let us know what you think :)

 Why we recommend it:

There are many reasons why we loved this book. For one, the journey Monsieur Perdu takes through France, introduces the readers to little French towns, French food and many loveable characters – each on their own journey through life in search of something.

Secondly, we loved the idea that ultimately Monsieur Perdu had to confront not just the bitter realities of his past, but most importantly, his own feelings, in order to truly free himself from the purgatory he had confined himself to for the last 21 years. Emotions can be hard but sitting with them and allowing yourself to fully feel them is sometimes the only way forward. The process through which Monsieur Perdu finally works through his emotions is heart breaking, yet cathartic.

A poignant, beautiful read. Do take out some time over the weekend to delve into this little gem and let us know your thoughts once you do.
